They do so because their systems bring together clear advancement pathways, pay that progresses with responsibility, and promotion tied to skill development. Most firms don’t fail because of intent. They fail because these elements operate independently. This brings new focus to how firms structure opportunity. When outcomes diverge this sharply within the same job, it tells us that inequality is being produced inside the firm, not just outside it. That makes this a systems problem.
